CHON-JI literally translates as "the Heaven the Earth". It is interpreted as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history, therefore, it is the initial pattern played by the beginner.

The form consists of two sections, one to represent the Heaven and the other the Earth, superimposed on each other.

Chon ji is the first of 24 International Taekwondo Federation hyungs and has 19 movements.
