22ND OF MARCH IS MY TAE KWON DO TOURNAMENT CAN'T WAIT FOR IT IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME. 2009 Qld Taekwondo Open and Selection ChampionshipsEVENT INFORMATION Host Taekwondo Queensland Inc ABN 55 366 224 427 Competition Dates Saturday 21 March – Technical Sunday 22 March – Sparring Competition Venue The Sports Centre At the Brisbane Entertainment Centre Melaleuca Drive, Boondall Tournament Rules WTF Rules with Australian Modifications Sparring is by elimination contest – RECENT RULE AMENDMENTS WILL NOT BE IMPLEMENTED FOR THIS COMPETITION Matches resulting in a tied score after deductions will progress to a sudden death round and the 7 point gap and 12 point ceiling rules will apply (NOTE - newly approved WTF rules are under consideration for Nationals). NOTE REGARDING HEAD CONTACT IN SPARRING This is a selection competition for the 2009 Australian National Championships which will be held at Chandler in Brisbane. At Nationals, it is expected that head contact rules will be as follows:- “A head kick, intentional or through lack of caution, will be treated similar as attacking the head with the fist or the hand. The appropriate penalties of Kyong-go (warning) or Gamjeom (deduction point) will apply.” In Qld, our head contact policy is that there is no permissible head contact for all divisions under 14. Should head contact occur, either intentionally or though lack of caution, the penalty for the first infringement will be a Gamjeom penalty and any second infringement will result in disqualification. A kyong-go penalty MAY be awarded for a motion to the head that has not connected. At this competition Qld rules will apply but participants should be aware of the rules expected to apply at the on-selected event. Qld usually offers modified (no head contact) participation as an option for divisions of 14-17, open and masters in order to encourage participation and development. This still applies, however, participants 14 or over requesting modified rules will not be eligible for selection to the Qld Team for the National Championships.
