Tae Kwon Do Patterns
Q: Hello. I have finally found someone who may be able to help me. I am a female, physically fit and have been taking Tae Kwon Do for about 6 weeks. I can do everything fine except remember the first pattern to pass the test from white to yellow. Do you have any tips that may help? I know I can do this!
A: The first pattern taught often varies from school to school, depending on which style of taekwondo you study and on the master who has created the curriculum.
Every style of taekwondo, of which there are several, have a set of patterns that students must learn. These patterns are different by style.
Some masters use a beginner form before teaching the curriculum forms dictated by the governing body of that particular style. A beginner form is a way to teach a student what a form is, what kind of movement is involved and the very basics.
So unfortunately, I can't answer your question specifically because the answer is going to vary for every school. But, you can ask a senior belt to help you study any form that you are having trouble with. It is good for them to review forms they have previously learned and they are there to help you progress in your own studies.
